Detox Weight Loss Plans

On a daily basis, our bodies undergo a lot of stress. We rarely consume enough water and refined sugars have become a part of our daily life. All these things block up the system. When your colon becomes blocked, waste begins to putrefy and toxins get reabsorbed into the blood stream. A detox is necessary to help cleanse the body; weight loss occurs as a result of cleansing waste and improving organ function.

Fasting

Weight loss is easier when the organs are functioning well. The colon is responsible for eliminating the toxins and waste from the body that tend to lead to weight gain. The better the digestion system functions, the healthier the body. Fasting is the most common way to cleanse the body. Traditionally it involves consuming only a large quantity of water for a set number of days, but there are some fasts that involve special recipes.

One fast involves drinking a combination of lemon, honey and cayenne pepper to clear out the colon. Place 1 tbsp. of honey, the juice of half a lemon and a pinch of cayenne pepper into a cup of purified water. Consume 12 cups of this mixture daily for three to 10 days. During this time, this mixture and water are the only things you can consume.

Another type of fast involves drinking only fruit and vegetable juices for three to 10 days. Fruit and vegetables are high in water and fiber, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Green vegetables facilitate the cleansing of toxins from the body.

It is important to drink 12 cups of water or juice per day during a fast. At the end of a fast, replenish your body with probiotics. These are the healthy bacteria or intestinal flora that maintain digestive health. They are found in yogurt that contains live cultures or they can be found in a concentrated form at health food stores and drug stores. Always be sure to consult your doctor before starting a fast and taking supplements.

Herbs

Herbs can help to cleanse the organs even after you complete a fast. These include dandelion root for cleansing the kidneys and liver, and marshmallow root, fennel and licorice root for cleansing and healing the intestines. They can be used individually or in combination. Add 1 tsp. of the herbs to boiled water and allow it to steep for three to five minutes. Then strain and drink the tea. You can drink one to three cups a day.
