Being obese while pregnant greatly increases your risk for health complications and risks such as pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, peripartum cardiomyopathy, etc. You can lose weight while pregnant without harming your baby or depriving it of nutrients. Always take your prescribed prenatal vitamin daily.
2Avoid processed foods when you can. Milk and frozen vegetables are considered processed but are also healthy. Avoid those that have too much sodium, sugar or any thing else detrimental to your health.
3Eat organic foods including whole grain bread, fruit, vegetables, etc.
4Eat lean meats including skinless chicken breasts, turkey, etc. Avoid Tuna and other foods high in mercury.
5Only drink water and fat free (skim) milk. You must avoid sodas, fruit juices and sport drinks. These beverages have too much sugar.
6Walk everyday. Make sure to wear good walking shoes. Start off with a short distance and increase your distance every week.
7Do pregnancy exercises like yoga, stretching and aerobics. There are some pregnancy exercise links under References.
8Only eat when you are hungry. Avoid snacking due to boredom. When you are bored, read about your pregnancy or go for a walk!
9Join a support group or online community for women who want to lose weight while they are pregnant.
